Spain has 58,744 Scouts (as of 2004) served by Federación de Escultismo en España (Scouting Federation in Spain), a federation of several organizations. Scouting was founded in Spain in 1912 and was among the charter members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922.
Members
The current members of the federation are
- the Movimiento Scout Católico (MSC, Catholic, coed)
- the Federación de Asociaciones de Scouts de Espana (ASDE, interreligious, coed).
Catalonia
The Federació Catalana d'Escoltisme i Guiatge (FCEG) recently changed its former full membership to observer-status within the national federation. It is only active in Catalonia and consists again of three associations:
- the Minyons Escoltes i Guies Sant Jordi de Catalunya (MEiGSJC, Catholic, coed), which is also part of MSC
- the Escoltes Catalans (EC, interreligious, coed)
- Acció Escolta de Catalunya (AEC, interreligious; also affiliated to ASDE; WOSM-Member only).
The FCEG is also a member of the Comité de Enlace del Guidismo en España, which is the Spanish World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts-member.
Program, ideals and projects
Scouting is being developed in Western Sahara with the assistance of Scouts from the Canary Islands.
