History
In 1922, the School management was changed from the Buddhist Theosophical Society to the Y.M.B.A. and Dr H.K.T Zilva became the new manager of Maliyadeva College
Maliyadeva Scout Group is one of the oldest and leading scout groups in Sri Lanka. It was started in the year 1922 as the 3rd scout group in Kurunegala District. The school buildings and the land were taken over by the Army in 1942 due to ongoing the World War II and all sports and extracurricular activities were interrupted. Maliyadeva Scout Group was then re established in 1960 and it was registered in Sri Lanka Scout Association.

Maliyadeva Scout Group began in the year 1922 as 3rd scout group Kurunegala.1st Christ Church Kurunegala & 2nd St Anne's College in same year, but present both scout groups are not here. Also no college call Christ Church.
In 1992 Scouting Activities were suddenly stopped and again restarted in 1995. This new start created a new chapter in the history book for the Maliyadeva Scout Group.
Due to the ongoing second world war, the school buildings and land was taken over by the Army in 1942. Due to that all sports & activities are stopped in college.
In 1960 Maliyadeva Scout Group registered in Sri Lanka Scout Association as 0173 with Mr. M.M.W.Mevaddana and Mr. Steven Perera. By 1965 the amount of senior scouts increased from 3 to 60 scouts.

"Sampath Ranawake Memorial Challenge Trophy" (SRMCT)
Maliyadeva Scout Group annually organize a exploratory competition named "Sampath Ranawake Memorial Challenge Trophy" (SRMCT) and it is the most famous and largest orienteering HIKE competition in Sri Lanka. In 1999, SRMCT was initiated as a small hiking competition and each year it has attracted more participation. Annually SRMCT has more than 1,000 Scouts, Girl Scouts and Guides participation from All Parts of the Country. It is recognized as a National Level Scouting Event by Sri Lanka Scout Association and Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka since 2006.

He was a senior prefect and had a prominent role even in the college Rugby team. Meanwhile he was highly devoted to an exploratory competition organized by the Scout Group of Maliyadeva College. But he never thought that he would be a victim of untimely death. We still remember the tragic date, 29th of May 1997 that he left us forever, Proving that great men die soon. On that day on words, We were compelled to commemorate "Sampath Ranawaka Memorial Day" by organizing the exploratory programme launched by him.

In the past couple of occasions at the closing ceremony of SRMCT, Sri Lanka Scout Association has requested from Maliyadeva Scout Group to organize SRMCT as a International Hiking competition. But it was not fulfilled up to now.

There by Sampath Ranawaka Memorial Exploratory Competition has been one of the great event organized by Maliyadeva Scouts annually with the participation of many schools in the Island.
In 2014 "Sampath Ranawake Memorial Challenge Trophy" theme song was introduced with the support of two Sri Lankan artists (BNS). As a fund raising campaign for SRMCT, Maliyadeva Scouts annually organize a Drama Programme with the support from well-known professional artists in the country.

So the great name of Mr. Sampath Ranawaka and the excellent features of the exploratory competition will bring enlightenment to each and every are of the lief of scouting forever and ever in the years to come.

The Deduru Oya Reservoir is located in the Kurunegala District. It will serve the lands in the dry and intermediate zones of the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts, where the people are frequently suffering from water scarcity. The benefits from the project will uplift the biodiversity values and natural condition of the Deduru Oya Reservoir and its surrounding areas, which are home to a number of endemic species of animals. These animals will be one of the main beneficiaries of this project. The planting will be completed in a three-year period, and hopefully, the area will receive more rainfall during these seasons, ensuring the trees' growth and survival.
