Pluses: Attractive, clean knot with no loose hanging tails. Stronger than the more commonly used Water knot.[citation needed] The name "beer knot" comes from the claim that this knot is better than the water knot, just as beer is better than water.
Minuses: Takes a bit longer to tie than Water knot. Difficult to visually assess the length of the free end inside the webbing to verify it is not working back through the knot.
