Hello

Hello Bduke,

I'm BG7, from Wikipedia and several other wikis.

I'm trying to do some overhauls to various pages here, and was wondering if you could suggest a good article and a good picture to use as the selected image/article for this month.

Thanks,

Hi, I thought I had replied to this on your talk page, but I must have forgotten to save it or something. Basically I am trying to get the Section articles and County/Area/State articles done for Australia and the UK (see a comment I put on Talk:The Scout Association). I also plan to fill in more about New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and other places in Oceania. I have no plans beyond that at this stage. The best ones I have done so far are Scouting in Victoria and Rovers (Australia). You might be interested in those. For an image, you might be interested in Image:Bogongroverchalet.JPG - an alpine Rover Chalet in the snow. I have copied a few articles over from WP, but I still have a lot of images to move over. Cheers. --Bduke 01:12, 6 January 2008 (EET)

speedy delete

Hi Bduke,

I remember reading that the Scouting in Orkney article wasnt needed any more as it was going to be changed(?).

Anyway, i've put it up for a speedy delete:

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Scouting in Orkney, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Not needed as new version will appear soon...

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BG7 12:14, 6 January 2008 (EET)

and if you want to keep it change the speedy to {{hang-on}} fairly soon.

Thanks,

This is all very confusing as you are using Wikipedia stuff. Orkney is, as far as I know, an Area in Scotland Scouting within the Scout Association. All Scottish Areas are going to be reorganised in March into a much smaller number of Regions. I see not reason why the Orkney article can not stay here until then. Do we have speedy deletion on ScoutWiki yet? --Bduke 13:06, 6 January 2008 (EET)

No we don't have speedy as such, and i need to re-write the temps, but it just helps as all the admins are non-local for them to be able to find everything in one place.
Ok, I will rv it for now...

I just did the revert. Late at night here. I'm just off to bed after a long IRC Wikipedia Australia meetup. --Bduke 13:10, 6 January 2008 (EET)
Ok no problems. One thing is don't want here is politics. WP is full of it. And hierachys aswell. I admit pretty much everything i imported to day needs editing down. And the easiest way is probably to speedy them and restart from scratch!
Thanks,
BG7 13:13, 6 January 2008 (EET)

Agree about the politics. Keep up the good work. --Bduke 13:16, 6 January 2008 (EET)

Thanks. Nice to know that others agree! "Great minds think alike"!BG7 13:34, 6 January 2008 (EET)

New articles

Hi Bduke,

When importing new articles from WP, you need to add {{From Wikipedia}} to either the talk page or the bottom of the article. It's part of the GFDL license, although it hasn't been obeyed till now, for whatever reason.

Any articles that don't have it please add it also.

Thanks,

Could you give an example of one article I have recently imported from Wikipedia where I have not done this? Apart from that I have trawled through all the articles in the Categories Scouting in XXX, where XXX is Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, checking that it is present or adding it. I will do the UK ones soon. These are most of what I have imported. I have also been very careful to add to the edit summary the actual version details of the article on wikipedia. That is also a vital thing to do for the CFDL as it points to the exact history of the article. I suggest you remind people to do that too. --Bduke 23:37, 6 February 2008 (EET)

A solution to our import woes?

Hi Bduke,

I think I may have a solution! The Import/Export tool. As an admin, I can access it here.

It will import the article with a full edit history - so no need for version or refs!

I'll test it on our latest article.

If it's succesful i'll talk to the owners to see if we could have an import group introduced, similar to the Wikipedia Rollback group.

Please let me know,

Sounds good, but I would like to see more details. I have been adding a link to the actual version imported and then adding your template on the talk page. I tried to fix up an import that Ed had done from Wikipedia with The Tobasco Donkeys, an article that was threatened with deletion on WP. You may have noticed that I have imported some more Scottish areas. I am doing that as I create the new region article on WP. They need to be merged here to make new region articles. I am however busy with other stuff. --Bduke 22:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok, cool, i'll look into it more.
With deleted articles, i'm not entirely sure whether or not we have to give a GFDL thing or not. With other wikis we haven't bothered, as there is no non-sysop way of getting the articles.
I will look into it further.
Thanks,
