Camp Mitigwa is a Boy Scout camp operated by the Mid-Iowa Council. It is located outside of Woodward, Iowa (north of Des Moines).

Facilities

Camp Mitigwa has over 450 acres of rolling valleys and ridges. Lake Fisher provides adequate space for canoeing, fishing and small boat sailing. Mitigwa has six year-round wood heated cabins available for weekend rental, as well as a heated shower facility. A thiry foot, five-sided Rappelling Tower is located at Camp Mitigwa. As well as a C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) Course, which includes a 400’ Zipline, 30’ Confidence Leap, Step Gap, Balance Beam and Skywalk events. Both the tower and the C.O.P.E. course can be reserved by a troop or crew.

Summer Camp

Camp Mitigwa offers many services to it's scouts, they are:

  • Outdoor Skills (Cooking, Camping, Survival, Orienteering, Pioneering, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness)
  • Handi Craft (Indian Lore, Woodworking, Woodcarving, Leatherworking)
  • Quartermaster Services
  • Health Lodge
  • Scoutmaster's lounge
  • Dinning Hall
  • Pool
  • Docks on the lake
  • Environmental Cabin
  • Ranger Services including trailer hauling
  • Latrene in every camp site
  • Outdoor Theater
  • and Chapel

Geography

Camp Mitigwa has three main ridges, each of these ridges has been developed for camping. They are:

  • Blank Ridge
  • Frankel Ridge
  • Casedy Ridge

And one minor ridge:

  • Outpost Ridge

The rest of Camp Mitigwa's 450 acres are either still "wild" or are used for trails, staff, or administration.
