Survival of the smartest is a large game that can be used in a theme about scientists or inventions. Because of the set-up of the game, it can be easily adapted into a game for large groups. Note that some time is needed to prepare the game, and you need more hands than usual to help you out during the playing of it.

Start of the game

The goal is to get an IQ high enough to..... (whatever the reason you think of).

How to keep your IQ on a nice position between 60 and 140? Each player has its own influence on the height of his or her IQ. By fulfilling assignments, the IQ can be improved. However, by bad influences, the IQ can drop as well!

At the start of the game, every player starts with a normalised IQ of 100. Every 10 minutes, the IQ drops with 15 points. This is kept at the central administration counter. To get your IQ balanced, or even increased, you need to get into action! This can be done by attending classes at the university, and doing some assignments there. In return, you receive a diploma. This diploma can be exchanged for IQ points at the administration counter.

If your IQ is dropped too much, and reaches below 60, you have to get back to school. Also, your IQ can be improved by spiritual healing done by .... (whatever commercial paranormal television personality is widely known in your region). Your IQ can drop down by being in contact with the IQ thief, which steals a part of your IQ.

The counters

Administration
Here, the IQ of all players are kept. When you deliver a diploma here, you can grab (blind) a number from one of the IQ boxes, and your IQ will be increased with whatever number you took. Also every 10 minutes, your IQ is lowered here with 15 points. The keeping of the IQ of all players can be done by hand, or, in case you have to deal with a large group, automatically using e.g. spreadsheet software.
School
If your IQ drops below 60, you have to return to school. After solving some puzzles, you are declared "healed", and you can get to the game again. The administration will increase your IQ back to 60.
Madhouse
If your IQ passes 140, you become such an intelligent person, that you enter madness. Here you have to do a couple of weird assignments. After you have finished those, your IQ drops to 100 again.
IQ thief
If you are tagged by the IQ thief, you have to pick a card. On this card the amount of IQ is given which you lose. With the card, you have to go to the administration.
Paranormal person
If you meet the paranormal person, he or she will give you extra IQ.
University
At the university, you can be addressed to a course, or another assignment, which can lead to a diploma when finished. These assignments can have three different levels of difficulty, and there are various diploma's to get.
