General

Scouting in Switzerland normally takes place in local groups. The leaders of them are rarely older than 25. Some Groups are funded by communes or churches.

Organisation

Almost all the local groups are members of the cantonal association and, by that, of the national organisation the Swiss Scout Movement which has about 50'000 members. Every member of the Swiss Scout Movement is also member of eighter WOSM or WAGGGS.

History

The first scouting groups in Switzerland were founded in 1912. 1913 the national association for boyscouts "Schweizerischer Pfadfinderbund (SPB)" was founded. A similar Association for girlscouts, the "Bund schweizerischer Pfadfinderinnen (BPS)" was founded in 1919. In 1987 both associations merged to the Swiss Scout Movement.
