Formed on 7th March 2008 by leaders and scouts formerly in the Fakenham Wensum Scout Group. The first Group Scout Master at Fakenham Lancaster is Guy Harris, formerly the Group Scout Leader at Fakenham Wensum.

History

Scouting in Fakenham began in May 1923, with the opening of 1st Fakenham Scout Troop. In 1954 this was joined by 2nd Fakenham (Salvation Army) Scout Group, but both of these Groups had merged to become Fakenham Wensum Scout Group by 1968. By 2007 Fakenham Wensum was operating both land and Air Scouts sections. In 2008 the majority of the leaders and youth members of Fakenham Wensum Scout Group chose to leave the Scout Association and formed Fakenham Lancaster Baden-Powell Air Scouts.

The Fakenham Lancaster Baden-Powell Air Scout Group opened in March 2008, initially meeting in the clubhouse at the Fakenham Rugby Club. Due to a rapid increase in numbers, the Group soon had to look for a larger location to meet, and moved to the Fakenham Children's Daycare Centre in May 2008. At the same time the Group secured the use of a local field for Scoutcraft training.

In August 2008 members of the Group attended Jamboree 2008, an event celebrating the centenary of the first official Scout Camp held by Baden-Powell in 1908. Their attendance at this event is indicated by a small badge showing the Scout sign on the Group standard and on the uniforms of those who attended.

In December 2010 the Group signed for the use of a 2.5 acre site close to Fakenham Racecourse and launched an appeal to raise funds to develop a headquarters on the site.

Flying

The Group has developed links with a local flying club, in order to offer flying experience to it's members.
