Catholic Guides of Ireland
The Catholic Guides of Ireland (Bantreoraithe Catoilicí na hÉireann in Irish) is one of the 2 organisations for Guiding in Ireland. Catholic Guides of Ireland has members both in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Catholic Guides of Ireland began in 1928. In 2003 they celebrated 75 years of Guiding in Ireland. Together with the Irish Girl Guides it forms the Council of Irish Guiding Associations.
Catholic Guides of Ireland is one of three Guide Associations on the island of Ireland. The other two are Irish Girl Guides (IGG) and The Guide Association - Province of Ulster.
Memberships
The Catholic Guides of Ireland are a member of the Council of Irish Guiding Associations which is the national Guiding federation of Ireland. Catholic Guides of Ireland is via this council a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts since 1993. The council serves 13,806 Guides (as of 2003).
Age Groups
The Catholic Guides of Ireland is divided into the following age groups:[1]
- Cygnet Guides - aged 5 - 7 years
- Brigin Guides - aged 6 1/2 - 11 years
- Guides - aged 10 1/2 - 15 years
- Rangers - 14 1/2 - 17 years
