Camp Winton is situated on the Bear River Reservoir. where you can find every aquatic scouting activity possible: water skiing, sailing, rowing, canoeing, swimming and a whole lot more. Winton is secluded and only accessible by foot or the camp boat which transports your gear. Winton is known for its spectacular evening campfires and wonderful camp entertainment.

Facilities

Each unit has its own campsite, but must provide their own tents and camping gear. Scouts eat cafeteria style on picnic tables under whispering pines near the lake.

Eagles Nest

First-year scout program: Eagle's Nest, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Swimming, Arts, Fishing, Crafts, and Nature round out our first year program at Winton.

Eagle's Nest is our first-year Scout program and has been designed to give Scouts the greatest opportunity to learn basic Boy Scouting skills. The Scouts will work on Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements. This program is run in the morning during the first three periods, and the Scouts will be able to choose up to three merit badges during the afternoon periods.

• Eagle Nest Overnighter: Wednesday evening the Scouts participating in the Eagle's Nest program will camp overnight at the Eagle's Nest area. Scouts participating in this overnight campout should not be scheduled for dinner duty for Wednesday dinner. They will set up their tent, cook their own dinner, and work on other rank requirements including First Class requirement 9a, visit with a civic leader, fire building/safety requirements, and some cooking requirements.
• Eagles Nest Hike: Scouts enrolled in the Eagle's Nest class will have the opportunity to complete the Second Class requirement for the 5-mile hike on Friday afternoon.

Aquatics

• Bear River Mile Swim: Swim across Bear River Reservoir from Camp Winton to the opposite shore and back.
• Polar Bear Plunge: Wake up in the mornings with a splash in Bear River Reservoir at 6:30a.m.

Overnight Canoe Treks

For the high adventurers, overnight canoe treks are available. This gives the unit an opportunity for an out-of-camp experience. Treks will be guided tours of the beautiful lake. The sights, sounds and experience will be remembered for a lifetime. The expedition begins at 4:45 p.m. to check out canoes and they must be returned by 7:00 a.m. the next morning.

GEC Council

Golden Empire Council (GEC) (local council #047) of the Boy Scouts of America operates this scout camp. It serves a large section of Northern California, primarily the Sacramento Valley and the northern Sierra Nevada mountains. As of 2017 they serve over 15,000 youth members.
