Camp Silver Fir is a BSA Scout Camp located on in the Western Sierra Nevadas on the northshore of Huntington Lake, California and is owned and operated by Verdugo Hills Council (VHCC).

Operated since the late 1950’s by the Verdugo Hills Council, Camp Silver Fir is an accredited BSA camp*, located in the Western Sierra Nevada mountains just east of Fresno. Just off highway 168 and less than one-half (½) mile from the northern shores of beautiful Huntington Lake, Camp Silver Fir is the superb mountain setting for your next summer adventure. At an elevation of 7200′, the breathtaking mountains, lakes and streams that surround Camp Silver Fir provide the basis for many activities and adventures that your unit or family can take advantage of.

Camp Silver Fir can be used as a jumping off point for one of the most breathtaking treks into the high Sierras, but it is also an ideal place for units who want to mix the beauty and solitude of the High Sierra with the opportunity of carrying out their own high adventure program.

The possibilities for adventure at Camp Silver Fir are almost endless. Whether you are looking to do a week long backpacking trek or develop your own summer camp program or even take a family vacation, Camp Silver Fir is a great resource that is available to you and can provide a high adventure experience for every step along the Scouting trail. High Adventure Treks

  • Dinkey Lakes Wilderness - The backbone of things to do in and around Camp Silver Fir are hiking and backpacking. Camp Silver Fir is the gateway to the Dinkey Lakes and Kaiser Wildernesses. With over 20 lakes and creeks in the Dinkey Lakes basin, this trek can be customized to suit the ability and desires of your group. A typical backpack itinerary can be five to seven days in the backcountry. You’ll want to acclimate a night at Camp Silver Fir before heading out on the trail. You can stay at a different High Sierra lake each night. The Dinkey Lakes area has the advantages of a very flexible itinerary, enabling unit leaders to select which trails, lakes and meadows they wish to visit during their trek.

The gentle slopes of the Western Sierras provide easy grades and trails are well defined and easy to follow. You can hike to the top of Three Sisters at an elevation of 10,619′, or Dogtooth Peak at an elevation of 10,311′, providing spectacular views of the Western Sierras.

  • Dinkey Lakes Wilderness -
  • Kaiser Wilderness - established in 1976 with 22,700 acres just immediately north of Huntington Lake. This wilderness is named for Kaiser Ridge, which divides the area into two distinctly different regions. There are four trailheads along the southern border
    • Home Camp Creek - Coarsegrass Meadow
    • Upper Billy Creek - Nellie Lake & Hidden Lake & Gloria Meadow. Also head to area Loop Trail
    • Potter Pass Trail - Kaiser Pass Road
    • Potter Cutoff Trail -
  • John Muir Wilderness - 584,000 acres of Sierra and Inyo National Forests, covering much of the Sierra Nevada extending from Mammoth Lakes in the north to My Whitney in the south.

Verdugo Hills Council

This district is part of The Verdugo Hills Council (VHC), headquartered in Glendale, California, and serves youth members and volunteer leaders through Scout units Covers San Fernando Valley. It is a local council (#058) of the Boy Scouts of America. All youth are invited to join scouting.
