Camp Howard

From ScoutWiki, For Everyone, Everywhere involved with Scouting and Guiding...

Camp Howard was a Boy Scout camp in Longwood near Orlando, Florida back in the 1960s. It was located north of SR434, on the east side of Markham Woods Road, and west of I-4 which may not have been completed at the time. Camp Howard's location was close to, if not exactly where the upscale community of Heathrow is located today. Local Scout troops camped out there, and it was the site of at least one official Camporee or Jamboree. In the early 1960s it was a large wooded area with few improvements, perhaps a well and water faucet centrally located. The Scouts pitched tents to sleep in, and gathered firewood for cooking and some excellent, rather large bonfires.
