Modern version of classic Finnish bark spud

A bark spud is logging tool. Spud peels bark from a log while limiting damage to the wood underneath. Although crude in appearance, it's remarkably efficient, especially if the tree was felled in the summer when the cambial layer is weakest. Wait until winter, and you'll have twice the work ahead of you.
