Village pump
Hi everyone,
this was on the Community Portal, but should really be at the Village Pump or similar.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could vote in the ballot below for a Village Pump.
Thanks,
BG7 22:18, 4 January 2008 (EET)
Ballot:
- Camp Site 3
- Scout Hall 2
- The Jamboree 1
- Camp Fire 1
'Camp Site 3, Scout Hall 2, The Jamboree 1, -- BG7 22:18, 4 January 2008 (EET)
I do not understand what you are doing here. Are we voting for a title for the "Village pump" equivalent here? In which case I fail to understand which you are voting for. I would prefer "The Camp Fire". [Note, this was called Projet talk:.. (i.e. spelt wrong), so I tried a move and it did something unexpected. We probably need an admin to fix it]. --Bduke 02:23, 5 January 2008 (EET)
- Hi we are voting for the name of the village pump. To make your views count and be valid, vote for 3 names, in the way I have. The one with the most votes by tomorrow will become the name, the rest being used as the sections if possible.
- First, tomorrow is way too early. There has only been four people editing this week. Second, I still do not understand. Are you saying the only choice is "Camp Site", "Scout Hall" and "The Jamboree"? What are the numbers, 3, 2, 1? Are you (in BG7's vote) counting 3 for "Camp Site", 2 for "Scout Hall" and 1 for "The Jamboree"? You are rushing this far too quickly. Let us discuss names first, before voting. I do not like any of the three. I have proposed "The Camp Fire"; that is where Scouts sit around and chew the fat. --Bduke 00:27, 6 January 2008 (EET)
- Ok. Fine. Voting extended to next Sunday. B), no you don't have to vote for my suggestions, please make your own, but you have to make 3 votes, giving 3 points to your favourite and 1 to your least. What's there to discuss when it's your choice in the first place? And yes, votes can be changed... BG7 00:31, 6 January 2008 (EET)

- Also, with the old name, the owners are aware of a naming convention problem, and yes, it porbably should be here, as ScoutWiki is what you should get when you name something Project. The only problem is that the side bar links to Project:Community.... Perhaps a thing for an admin to change? I'll leave a message on it's talk page, and also on Akela NDE's page...
- Thanks,

OK, my vote is "The Camp Fire" - 3; "the Scout Den" - 2; "The Camp Site" - 1. However, it has just occurred to me that several of the suggestions are not inclusive of the Guides. I will think more about this. --Bduke 00:47, 6 January 2008 (EET)
- I have thought about this overnight. I suggest that Scout Hall, The Jamboree and Scout Den should be not considered as they are Scouting terms that exclude Guides. That leaves The Camp Fire and The Camp Site. I change my vote to those two as 3 and 2 respectively. We must be inclusive of everybody in the scouting movements. --Bduke 01:43, 7 January 2008 (EET)
- My vote goes to Camp Fire, that does not exclude anyone, and the term was used in Scouting for Boys. Juham 14:00, 8 January 2008 (EET)
- Camp Site 3, Camp Fire 2, Scout Hall 1 - meaning that Camp Site would be my first choice, and scout hall my third choice... Not sure I understand the voting either, but whatever you all decide is fine. Ericblazek 19:52, 12 January 2008 (EET)

Scouting Wikia
Is en-SW really a direct successor for Scouting Wikia? If yes, why isn't it completely run down and the users more efficiently redirected here? Has all the material been transferred here? --ZeiP 01:58, 11 September 2007 (CEST)
- Yes it has been all transferred here, and yes it is a successor for Scouting Wikia, or, well, at least, in my mind. But I haven't completely run down the scouting wikia because I thought as, as long as it wasn't "my" wiki and as I don't know the guy who created it, I couldn't blank all pages ... But maybe it would be a good idea to do so. I'm not sure. Akela - yaw yaoooo ! 05:06, 11 September 2007 (CEST)
- Well, I wouldn't even put any notices there if it was someone else's, but try to contact the owner instead. Oh well. --ZeiP 00:06, 12 September 2007 (CEST)
- If my memory's good we tried, but he didn't answer. We tried to contact BigDT too, the guy who tried to wake it up : he logged in here but seemed to have changed is mind as he's the owner of the http://www.scoutpedia.com url, which he recently made a redirect to en:wikipedia's scouting portal. Spam control
There are currently quite many infinite blocks. I'm quite sure none of those actually need to infinite – the spammers don't probably even have the same IP any more, they've changed it a million times already for the blocks created on June. Some of the blocks even block creation of accounts!
So, we need to think about spam control. Spam control with the amount of spam we currently have here would be relatively easy if we had enough activity – however in the current situation in which most of the entries on Special:Recentchanges are blocks, deletions and reverts of spam, it just doesn't work.
We can't keep on giving those infinite blocks. Instead we need to figure out a decent duration after which the block expires – two weeks, month, two months — pretty much anything but infinite. Also, we need to think if we need to allow anonymous edits at all. It seems the only reasonable edits are done by logged-in users anyway, so I think it'd be a feasible option. --ZeiP 03:58, 17 November 2007 (EET)
I think that it would be good to block anonymous edits. I avoid giving infinite blocks, but all admins should do so. Juham 00:25, 3 December 1907 (EET)
Advertising
Any wiki needs advertising: new members, fresh ideas, prevent burnout. Are there any efforts underway to contact the BSA council website admins and ask that ScoutWiki link be added ? Any other ideas ?
Ericblazek 07:16, 30 November 2007 (EET)
Someone should contact the British Scoutnet association, they know many potential contributors. Juham 00:25, 3 December 2007 (EET)
Article history
I have just created an account and copied all the State and Section articles of Scouts Australia from Wikipedia. Looking at my contributions, I see it lists 4 back in March or February of this year which clearly are edits to wikipedia, not here. Should the history be copied over when an article is copied over? If so, how? However, I note that those 4 are certainly not the sum of all my WP edits to scouting articles, even up to March when most of the copy seems to have been done. There must be hundreds going back to 2005. --Bduke 03:14, 28 December 2007 (EET)
- OK, I have now found Help:Importing articles under GFDL and I had not added the version number on the edit summary for the articles I copied from WP. I have however now added the link on the talk page. I will follow the correct procedure in future. --Bduke 04:46, 28 December 2007 (EET)
New logo
Hello lucky people,
You now have a brand-new, shiny logo … Not very different from the previous one, as you will probably have [not] noticed, but it has been entirely re-designed and should look better. And if you need to use it for some specific purpose, like creating images bearing that logo or whatever you want, you will be pleased to see that its original version, in .svg vector format, is available here on Scoutmedia.
I hope you enjoy contributing ScoutWiki. If BG7 is a naughty admin, tell us ! Akela - yaw yaoooo ! 23:07, 15 January 2008 (EET)
Policy suggestion about imports from Wikipedia
To make it simple to see when a page, that was imported from Wikipedia, was cross-checked, there should be something to make it easy to see the Wikipedia revision that was cross-checked, perhaps a template on the talk page. Juham 15:00, 7 January 2008 (EET)
- Hi Juham,
- I will be putting a template in place over the next few days. This sort of question should go to our "Village Pump", but as it isn't set up yet, well done for posting here! Why don't you vote for the VP on the talk page?
- Thanks,
- BG7 20:43, 7 January 2008 (EET)
- Done Page created at {{From Wikipedia}}. Still some tidying to do though. One for Commons will follow. BG7 18:01, 8 January 2008 (EET)
Can someone upload this image?
Hi,I can't save .svgs on my pc, so can someone upload ? It's here and here if you need to find it.

News namespace
It seems that you're advising your users to create news pages so that the page name starts with ”News” prefix. Do you want this to be handled as a separate namespace? That enables you to search only from news, clears up the structure and the discussion pages are named properly (Talk:News:Blah vs. News talk:Blah). I'd recommend this. --ZeiP 15:12, 3 February 2008 (EET)
- Yes, that would help! (BTW can discussions such as this PLEASE go to the Camp Fire? I didn't set it up for nothing...

How to start new Language version? Please help me.
Hello. My name is Jan Pospisil, my scout name is Eifel. I am ready to translate to/from Czech, English, Esperanto, Slovak (and later also Spanish) languages. I would like to start with a new Czech wiki - please, can anybody create the new main pagxe, which I am going to translate into Czech? There are hundreds of articles in English to be translated to Czech (and to Esperanto). I am ready to work.--Jan Pospisil 22:13, 24 March 2008 (EET)
- Hello Jan,
- To start a new ScoutWiki, you will need to speak to one of the "owners", Akela NDE, Cedsib and a few others. In the meantime you are welcome to use the en wiki to build up your own, just please categorise all the pages with Category:CzechWiki or similar, and use a language prefix (cz:?).
- If you have more questions, please contact me on my talk page, or use The Camp Fire.
- THanks,
- BG7 11:50, 25 March 2008 (EET)
Hello. My name is Aleksander Matsiyevskyy, my scout name is BigFox. I am ready to translate to/from Ukrainian, English, Russian, Polish (and later also Spanish) languages. I would like to start with a new Ukrainian wiki - please, can anybody create the new main page, which I am going to translate into Ukrainian? There are one scoutportal and few pages are into ukrainian languages . I am ready to work.--Aleksander Matsiyevskyy 22:13, 17 april 2009 (EET)
- Starting an Ukrainian Scoutwiki is no problem, but we must be sure that the wiki will be active. People must regularly write articles and the wiki must be maintained: spam removed, spell checked, redirects and categories made, layout improved etc. We saw you are the the president of one of the Ukrainian Scouting organisations, that is no problem. But an Ukrainian Scoutwiki must be open for all Ukrainian speaking Scouts, you must be willing to allow members from other Scouting organisations to write about their interpretation of Scouting. --Egel 16:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
