For more than a century, the Order of the Arrow (OA) is a program of the Boy Scout division of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is the BSA's national honor society for experienced campers, based on American Indian traditions, and dedicated to the ideal of cheerful service. The society recognizes those Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily lives.

Membership Requirements

Youth Membership Requirements

On 02 Feb 2019, Youth membership eligibility was extended beyond Scouts BSA to include Venturing, Sea Scouts and girls in troops of Scouts BSA. Youth requirements are:

  • Younger than age 21
  • Experienced 15 nights of scout camping in the last two years.
  • Completed one long-term camp in the last two years.
  • Approved by Unit Leader
  • Be Elected by elected by peers in your scout unit
  • Completed one of the following rank advancements:
    • Scouts BSA - 1st Class Rank
    • Venturing BSA - Discovery Award
    • Sea Scouts BSA - Sea Scout Ordinary Rank

Adult Membership Requirements

Adult membership requirements are:

  • Be a registered scouter
  • Complete OA camping requirements
  • Nominated and selected by the adult lodge selection committee
