The Liga dos Escuteiros de Moçambique (LEMo), the national Scouting organization of Mozambique, was founded in 1960, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1999. The coeducational Liga dos Escuteiros de Moçambique has 28,898 members as of 2004.

Mozambique hosted the 5th African Jamboree in 2006, (which had been postponed more than once), and was espected to host the cancelled World Scout Moot in 2008. The association is a member of the Comunidade do Escutismo Lusófono (Community of Lusophone Scouting).

The Mozambique Chief Scout is from Poland, and the Liga dos Escuteiros de Moçambique uniform is similar to the Polish uniform, despite the climate differences. Note even the similarities between the Mozambican Scout emblem and the Polish Scout lilijka.

Scouts have participated in several world wide events. Scouting is most active in the major cities.
