I wish I knew more about the demise of Camp Shawondasee. I attended there in 1967. I recall earning my Mile Swim merit badge, Marksmanship merit badge, and canoeing in modest size canoes and also large "war canoes". Besides using Duck Lake, we canoed on some nearby river. If your canoe tipped during the river trip you were designated an automatic member of the "wet stern club", and at dinner you were initiated by having a pitcher of cold water pour over your backside! We also canoed to the Duck Lake outlet into Lake Michigan and used the sugar-sand beach on the big lake.
