PHD Mountain Software

PHD--or Peter Hutchinson Designs--is an outdoor clothing and equipment company. It specializes in down sleeping bags and down jackets but also makes synthetically-insulated sleeping bags and jackets, outerwear, fleece, and accessories. Their lines are designed for climbers, mountaineers, polar explorers and hikers.

History of PHD

PHD was established in 1998 in Stalybridge, Chesire, UK by Peter Hutchinson, the founder of Mountain Equipment and designer / manufacturer to a range of mountaineering and polar expeditions over the last 46 years. PHD's clients include Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Rosie Swale-Pope, Andy Kirkpatrick, Ian Parnell and Jim McNeill. In the year 2000 their Minimus down sleeping bag was chosen as an official 'Millennium Product' by the British Design Council.
