The Ashley's bend is used to tie two ropes together, end to end. It is very easy to tie and untie once you have the knack. Even so it is a very secure bend and can put up with a good deal of strain and movement. It can also be used to tie a bend with thin line. It is similar to the Zeppelin bend.
